The goal of this funding opportunity is to provide faculty with in-progress major projects the resources necessary to strengthen those projects.  Specifically, this will take the form of two types of grants:

Pre-reviews of major grant submissions or book manuscripts

Purpose:

Faculty with complete drafts of major grant applications (typically >$100,000) or book manuscripts are invited to request funds to facilitate expert reviews of their work prior to submission. Grants will typically be for no more than $1,000, to allow for two reviews by experts in the field (honoraria of $500 each) or a review by a professional grant reviewer.

Application and Submission:

  1. Name of applicant and name(s) of proposed reviewer(s)
  2. Brief description of project, including the stage it is in at the time of application (<1 page)
  3. Rationale for the choice of reviewer(s) to be invited (brief bio(s), description of expertise.
  4. What will be asked of the reviewer(s) (for example, full written NIH-style review and 1-hour Skype consultation.
  5. Proposed budget and timeline.

Deadline:

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in consultation with faculty in the relevant field; applicants can typically expect a decision within 3 weeks of application. Awardees will be required to report back on the final submission and its outcome

Statistical support

Purpose:

Faculty in need of statistical consultation to enhance major grant submissions (typically >$100,000) can apply for funds to access statistical consulting services: http://rubies.rutgers.edu/index.html or https://stat.rutgers.edu/centers/osc. Applications for statistical support for other major projects will also be considered. Grants will typically be limited to $750 per application.

Application and Submission:

  1. Name of applicant and statistical consulting service to be used
  2. Brief description of project, including the stage it is in at the time of application (<1 page)
  3. Brief description of what the statistical consultant will assist with and the anticipated outcome of that assistance
  4. Estimate of number of hours of assistance needed and cost (budget) and timeline

Deadline:

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in consultation with faculty in the relevant field; applicants can typically expect a decision within 3 weeks of application. Awardees will be required to report back on the submission and its outcome.
