The goal of this funding opportunity is to provide faculty with in-progress major projects the resources necessary to strengthen those projects. Specifically, this will take the form of two types of grants:
Pre-reviews of major grant submissions or book manuscripts
Purpose:
Faculty with complete drafts of major grant applications (typically >$100,000) or book manuscripts are invited to request funds to facilitate expert reviews of their work prior to submission. Grants will typically be for no more than $1,000, to allow for two reviews by experts in the field (honoraria of $500 each) or a review by a professional grant reviewer.
Application and Submission:
- Name of applicant and name(s) of proposed reviewer(s)
- Brief description of project, including the stage it is in at the time of application (<1 page)
- Rationale for the choice of reviewer(s) to be invited (brief bio(s), description of expertise.
- What will be asked of the reviewer(s) (for example, full written NIH-style review and 1-hour Skype consultation.
- Proposed budget and timeline.
Deadline:
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in consultation with faculty in the relevant field; applicants can typically expect a decision within 3 weeks of application. Awardees will be required to report back on the final submission and its outcome
Statistical support
Purpose:
Faculty in need of statistical consultation to enhance major grant submissions (typically >$100,000) can apply for funds to access statistical consulting services: http://rubies.rutgers.edu/index.html or https://stat.rutgers.edu/centers/osc. Applications for statistical support for other major projects will also be considered. Grants will typically be limited to $750 per application.
Application and Submission:
- Name of applicant and statistical consulting service to be used
- Brief description of project, including the stage it is in at the time of application (<1 page)
- Brief description of what the statistical consultant will assist with and the anticipated outcome of that assistance
- Estimate of number of hours of assistance needed and cost (budget) and timeline
